Fitting instructions

Your stone will be delivered to you in it’s raw natural state. We do not treat the stone in any way.

Your tiler will be able to provide suitable adhesives with which to fix the stone, the adhesive chosen is dependant as much on what the stone is being bonded to as the stone itself.

If you are unsure what adhesive should be used, we will be happy to provide specific advice.

The stone should be fitted with the chosen adhesive and allowed to dry out thoroughly (at least overnight). Once dry, seal the stone with Lithofin Stain Stop or equivalent.

*Note, should you wish to enhance the natural appearance of your stone you can treat it with Lithofin Colour Intensifier. This must be done before any sealer is applied. Always use products from the same manufacturer to avoid any unwanted chemical reactions. As a rule of thumb, if you wipe a damp sponge across a the raw stone, this is similar to the effect the intensifier will give you.

During the laying process stone absorbs a large quantity of the water used in the adhesives, don’t be concerned if the stone appears patchy or changes colour at this stage. It might take two or three days to dry out completely but it will gradually return to it’s natural dry appearance.

The amount of sealant required depends on the porosity of the stone. It’s usually sensible to apply two coats of sealant in quick succession to the stone before grouting. Allow the sealant to dry overnight before grouting commences. I’ve found the best way to apply the sealant is with a paint tray and roller (non foam type).

Grout, wash and polish the tiles in the normal manner making sure all grout and cement residues have been removed. Allow the stone and grout to dry overnight.

Apply more sealant to the tiles and grout as necessary, again there is no hard and fast rule about how much to apply, just keep applying the sealant until the stone stops absorbing it. I’ve normally found that two or three coats of sealant are more than enough at this stage.

Your stone is now set and finished and ready for you to enjoy.
